Music Director Rossen Milanov leads the Princeton Symphony Orchestra in a distinctively American program on October 6, featuring works by Derek Bermel, Copland, and Gershwin in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
In the spirit of the program, the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra joins the PSO for Derek Bermel’s Migration Series, a work based on Jacob Lawrence’s eponymous collection of paintings portraying scenes of African–American migration in the early 20th Century. Rossen also leads his orchestra in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture and Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite. The program is followed by a reception at the Princeton University Art Museum featuring paintings by Lawrence and more.
