This week, Music Director Designate Rossen Milanov returns to Columbus for the first of two concert programs with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. The Bulgarian conductor leads Mason Bates’s recently-premiered Cello Concerto on January 30 and 31, featuring soloist Joshua Roman. The work is bookended by Elgar’s Cockaigne, Op. 40 and Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3, “Organ.”
Rossen returns to the CSO Podium in March when he leads the orchestra in Brahms’s Symphony No. 3, Einojuhani Rautavaara’s percussion concerto Incantations, and Ravel’s Bolero. Percussionist Colin Currie joins for Rautavaara. These performances take place March 20 and 21.
