This Saturday, music director Rossen Milanov and Symphony in C begin their 2014-15 season of concerts with a Wanamaker Organ spectacular at Macy’s Philadelphia. Performing in Macy’s seven-storey court, built to house the massive instrument, Rossen and the orchestra offer a trio of works with soloist Peter Richard Conte. The Wanamaker Organ boasts the distinction of being the largest operational pipe organ in the world.
The program consists of Elgar’s Cockaigne Overture Opus 40, Poulenc’s Concerto for Organ, Timpani, and Strings in G minor, and Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3.
