This Friday, Rossen Milanov returns to the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias to continue the orchestra’s exploration of music and dance. The centerpiece of the program will be Stravinsky’s Firebird, the composer’s first success with Sergei Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes.
Two other landmark Russian ballet scores are featured in the concert: Prokofiev’s Cinderella Suite No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite. It’s the latter piece that also factors into a program on Thursday as part of the OSPA’s AVANTI series—geared towards new classical music audiences—also led by Rossen.
