In celebration of the Britten centennial, Rossen Milanov conducts the composer’s gripping War Requiem with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias on November 22 and 23; the first of the two performances taking place on Britten’s actual birthday. A non-liturgical setting of the Requiem Mass, the work commemorated the reconsecration of Coventry Cathedral following its destruction during World War II. Traditional Latin texts are paired with settings of World War I poems by Wilfred Owen.
In keeping with the composer’s original intent, the work’s multinational soloists features British tenor Robin Tritschler, German baritone Stephan Genz, and Russian soprano Evelina Dobraceva. Rossen also leads the Coro de la Fundación Principe de Asturias and the Coro Infantil de la Fundación Principe de Asturias.
