In the wake of a 2013-14 concert season that according to La Nueva España, “reached its zenith with Mahler’s giant Symphony No. 5,” Rossen Milanov leads the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias on a three-day tour of his native Bulgaria’s summer music festivals.
Rossen and OSPA begin at the Varna Summer International Music Festival with two programs on June 16 and 17. Audiences on the 16th will hear Marcos Fernández’s Resonancias, Fallas’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain with pianist Javier Perlanes, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. The following evening’s program features Falla’s Three Cornered Hat Suite No. 2, Oscar Navarro’s Clarinet Concerto with Jose Franch Ballester, and Ravel’s orchestral arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
This second program is reprised on June 18 at Sofia Music Weeks in Bulgaria’s capital city.
