Fresh from his performances of Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the OSPA, Rossen Milanov returns to the United States for concerts in Wisconsin. On April 18 and 19, the Bulgarian conductor is heard with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. The program highlights Chausson’s Poème and Bartók’s Rhapsody for Violin with soloist Frank Almond.
Bookending these two showpieces are the Overture to Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. These two Shakespeare-inspired works celebrate the 450th anniversary of the playwright’s birth, and Romeo and Juliet will be performed with several actors from Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, as directed by Mark Clements, providing action from the play in between movements.
