The Columbus Symphony announced today that Rossen Milanov will be its next music director. The Bulgarian maestro assumes the title beginning with the 2015-16 season and will hold the post for four years.
“We are excited to welcome Maestro Milanov to our Columbus community! He brings a passion, creativity, and vision to symphonic music that, when coupled with our extraordinary talented group of musicians, will enable the CSO to deepen its pursuit of artistic excellence and its connection with the community,” stated Lisa Barton, CSO Board Chair. “Under Milanov’s leadership, the CSO will begin an exciting new chapter of musical innovation that will welcome both long-time supporters and newcomers alike.”
Rossen was previously heard with the Columbus Symphony in January 2012 when he conducted a Folk Roots program, and in March of this year when he led a Happy Hour concert. He returns to the podium as Music Director Designee on January 30 & 31 for two works by Mason Bates (including the premiere of his Cello Concerto with Joshua Roman) and Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3. Rossen also joins the orchestra March 20 & 21 for Einojuhani Rautavaara’s percussion concerto Incantations, Brahms’s Symphony No. 3, and Ravel’s Bolero.
