On November 8, Rossen Milanov returns to Riga to lead the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra in a sold-out performance Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. A towering component of orchestral repertoire and the composer’s canon, the work is characterized by its opening trumpet heralds and popular standalone movement, the Adagietto—a love song to Mahler’s wife, Alma.
The concert marks Rossen’s third appearance with the LNSO: Previously, he has conducted Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 and an all-Russian program that included Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
