Rossen Milanov makes his first appearance of the 2013-14 season with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias on September 28. The orchestra’s Principal Conductor celebrates Verdi’s bicentennial (which takes place on October 10) with his towering Requiem at the Royal Site of Covadonga, a sacred landmark and pilgrimage destination in Asturias that was the origin site of the Spanish Reconquista in 722 AD.
The cast of soloists features noted young Verdian soprano Michelle Johnson, the Bulgarian conductor’s compatriot mezzo-soprano Vesselina Kasarova, Greek tenor Mario Zeffiri, and Italian bass Carlo Colombara. Rossen also leads the Chorus of the Ópera de Oviedo.
